Engineering Approach to Management Sciences

Today, businesses that successfully maintain their existence in national, regional and international markets need to have far-sighted, creative and innovative human resources with strong knowledge and skills.

Today's businesses need powerful leaders who are well-equipped in engineering subjects such as mathematical modeling, operations research, as well as traditional business issues such as finance, marketing, human resources, in other words, they need managers who can think analytically and approach business problems from an engineering perspective.

Who is a Business Engineer?

In today's competitive environment, methods used to improve productivity, customer satisfaction and profit rates in industry, service, information and infrastructure systems are gaining increasing importance in all engineering branches. Management Engineering emphasizes the importance of managerial knowledge and skills in engineering education, and therefore, the curriculum of the program is designed to train graduates who will design, organize, improve, manage and support the creation of a company culture in line with integrated and complex systems that include human, material, capital, energy, information and technology. . In addition, the acquisition of knowledge, abilities and skills required for understanding, designing and implementing management systems to be used to increase productivity and efficiency in these systems, production,

Management Engineering Education

The duration of business engineering education is four years. In the first year of education, basic courses such as physics, mathematics and computer programming are given. In the following years, the basic courses and application areas of business engineering take place.

The following courses are included in the management engineering undergraduate curriculum of Beykoz University:

  • Physics and Mathematics (Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Probability Theory and Statistics, Discrete Mathematics)
  • Programming
  • Economy
  • Statistics
  • management and organization
  • Management Accounting
  • Cost accounting
  • Human Resources Management
  • Marketing

There are also elective courses in the program.

Many of the courses in the business engineering program are common to the business program and the industrial engineering program. Compared to the business program, the business engineering program also includes basic engineering courses, engineering courses such as programming, information systems, operations research. In contrast, the business engineering program is closer to the field of business than the industrial engineering program and includes business courses such as management accounting, human resource management, marketing, and finance.

The reason why business engineering is presented as a separate program from industrial engineering and business is that the engineering approach needs to be introduced into the business field, which is becoming more complex nowadays, whereas industrial engineering is not close enough to the business field, and it cannot fully meet this need.

Common Courses in the First Year of Engineering Programs

At Beykoz University, the first years of engineering programs are common except for one course, that is, they consist of the same courses. The partnership of the first year allows the student to transfer at the end of the first year without losing the course. Thus, the student who is not satisfied with the choice he made at the entrance to the university can pass the engineering department without the loss of another engineering department.

The commonality of the first year of engineering programs makes it easier to do minor and double major among engineering programs.

Competence Development Program

Today, the business world expects university graduates to enter business life with some critical competencies as well as theoretical knowledge in their field. With the "Competency Development Program" of our university, we aim to make our students graduate with the basic and managerial competencies needed by the 21st century business world, as well as the field knowledge they study. In this way, our engineers and architects who graduate from our faculty enter the business world with the critical basic and managerial competencies they have gained during their education as well as their knowledge of the business world and start their careers with a great advantage.

Internship and Workplace Work

Internships and workplace work are important for business engineering education. The education model of Beykoz University is based on working in a workplace in the field of education in the last period of the four-year undergraduate education consisting of eight semesters. Thus, when the student graduates, he / she starts one step ahead in business life.
