Program Overview
There is a very high level of demand for qualified construction project managers in the global construction industry. This programme produces qualified project managers of the quality required by the UK, Middle Eastern and global construction industries, both in terms of their immediate ability to perform and their longer term strategic potential.
Taught from the perspective of construction project management, with principles that apply far beyond this sector, the programme provides students with access to both a solid theoretical base and current and future strategies in practical project management.
Course content
Full-time students undertake four courses in semester one and a further four courses in semester two.
Taught courses include:
-
Project Management: Theory and Practice
-
Contracts and Procurement
-
Project Management: Strategic Issues
-
Value and Risk Management
-
People and Organisational Management
-
Construction Financial Management
-
Construction Practices and Information Technology
-
Sustainability in Civil Engineering (optional)
-
Construction Technology (optional)
In addition to these taught courses, students pursuing the Masters qualification undertake a research project. Students can study individual courses to meet the continued professional learning requirements of the built environment professions.
Entry requirements
For MSc entry, a good relevant Honours degree (first or second class) or equivalent overseas qualifications will be considered. Given the clear practical element of the programmes, we will also consider non-graduate candidates holding less than a good Honours degree, or its equivalent, but with compensating qualifications or experience may be admitted to the Postgraduate Diploma programme. Transfer to the MSc will be possible later on if exams and course work are at MSc level.
English language requirements
Where English was not the medium of instruction at secondary school, applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency equivalent to IELTS 6.5 (with all elements passed at 6.0 or above). Applicants who have completed secondary and tertiary education will need to provide documentary evidence. A minimum of one year full-time study in English will be required.
You will be asked to pay an application processing fee of AED 300 for each application form you submit. Heriot-Watt cannot process your application without this fee.
Fees:
AED 78750*
* All tuition fees inclusive of VAT
When to apply
The Dubai Campus operates a rolling year-round admissions process: as soon as one intake has closed we begin accepting applications for the next one. It is also possible for you to defer your start date for up to a year.
All of their programmes have an intake in September, but some programmes also offer an additional intake in January.
Most students apply 6–10 months in advance of their chosen intake. They can accept applications up until 3 weeks before the start of each intake but you should note that a late application will almost certainly mean a delay in the provision of essential administrative services, such as your student matriculation card (without which you won't be able to access library or online services).
Scholarships and discounts:
The University recognises the substantial investment students will make towards their education. To help ease this financial burden, Heriot-Watt offers scholarships to Dubai campus students who qualify for them
Dubai Community Award
A discount of AED 6000 will be awarded to all students applying and paying tuition fee deposit until 31 May 2021.
The Dubai Community Award will be offered to any student (foundation, undergraduate or postgraduate) applying and paying tuition fee deposit by the required deadline.
